Together We Can Achieve Excellence

School Meals/ Free School Meals & Milk

The service chosen by the Governing Body for our school is a hot meal service provided by Dolce School Catering. Quality is a key aim of the service and all their ingredients are sourced ethically and where possible locally. Food is prepared and cooked in Coalville and the dinners are then transported in hot boxes to our school ready to serve. They aim to encourage healthy eating by offering a variety of nutritious foods. All school meals include carbohydrates, proteins and vegetables, the crucial elements of a nutritionally balanced diet – and children are taught the importance of each to a balanced diet, so they can make the right choices. For our current menu please see the download below.

Further information for parents can be found on the Dolce website here: Dolce - Parents Information

Our current menu can be viewed by following the link at the bottom of this page.

Parents may be entitled to free school meals and milk for their child. Families of children and young people in full-time education at any school maintained by Leicestershire County Council may be entitled to claim free school meals, providing they receive a qualifying benefit. In the recent past pupils registered for free school meals have been entitled to apply for laptops, funding for clubs, trips and residentials. Even if you are not interested in taking up a free school meal it is worth registering for the other benefits. If you would like your child to have Milk at school, information is available here.

We have regular themed lunches to celebrate events or themed days at school; you will be contacted via email to let you know when these are happening.

Children are encouraged to make healthy food choices in regard to contents of lunchboxes for those who do not take school meals. Dolce's packed lunch policy can be viewed below. More information on healthy eating & packed lunches is available here - Change4Life. Fruit is provided in Key Stage 1 for the afternoon break and fruit may be brought from home for the morning break. Children in Key Stage 2 may bring in fruit for morning and afternoon breaks. Further information is obtainable in our Whole School Food Policy.

We are a Nut Free School

We, at Newton Burgoland Primary School, aim to be a nut-free school. The school aims to protect children and staff who have allergies to nuts. We therefore do not allow nuts or nut products in school lunch boxes.

Our “Nut-Free Policy” means that the following items should not be brought into school:

  • Packs of nuts
  • Peanut butter or Nutella sandwiches
  • Fruit and cereal bars that contain nuts
  • Chocolate bars or sweets that contain nuts
  • Sesame seed rolls (children allergic to nuts may also have a severe reaction to sesame)
  • Cakes made with nuts
  • Any home-cooked meals for packed lunches that are made from or contain nuts

Items that “may contain nuts”, “may contain traces of nuts” or are “made in factories that use nuts” are allowed in school.  These present a low risk as nuts are not direct ingredient in the products.

Our school food provider ensures that any food prepared for and served on our site is nut-free. However, we cannot guarantee freedom from nut traces.

Parents and carers must notify staff if their child has any known or suspected allergy to nuts and provide all medical and necessary information. This will be added to your child’s care plan and, if necessary, a meeting organised with the school nurse.
